Frank Sinatra used to say, Chicago is my kind of town... And I completely agree, Chicago, for sure, is my kind of town!!! My
gorgeoussss husband and I moved from Brazil to here approximately 9 months ago and
to make a long story short, this city won us!!!
My expectation before we moved here was good, but today I really don’t
understand how I had never thought to know the famous #Chitown! For this
reason, for my first real post I’m going to write a little bit more about this
city that welcomed us so well these past few months!! =)
And how do I describe this city? EASY… Chicago is a city that offers the
several kinds of attractions and its unlikely it will not please everyone! Amazing
parks and outdoor attractions (most of them for free), well recognized museums,
an unique architecture, an enormous variety of restaurants and pubs, and not less important, theaters and famous musicals (Broadway in Chicago)! For the consumerist, the best
stores are located at Magnificent Mile. For
people who love sports, here are a options for all kind of taste; basketball,
american football, baseball and hockey.
Below, my favorites places here. For everyone that is thinking to visit
Chicago, don’t miss these places! ;)
Top Attractions:
-
Millennium Park – Just one word to describe it: wonderful
(mainly during the summer because you can enjoy a lot of good attractions, and the
best part, most of them are free). Many of the most famous touristic places in
town are here: the bean (or Cloud Gate), the Jay Pritzker Pavilion a famous
place that hosts concerts and other kinds of events. There is also a big
fountain that project some Chicagoans faces who spit water for the happiness of
the children.
OBS: going ahead on the park (South Loop way) you’ll
see the Buckingham Fountain. And believe me, you can't miss this place. It is located on the Grant Park and it is not only beautiful but
you also have a wonderful view of the Chicago skyline.
Buckingham Fountain during the winter. |
-
Willis Tower – One of my favorite touristic points in
the city!!! A beautiful view directly from the 103’ floor, where you can see
practically all city and other three states: Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana!
This building also has some glass windows that go outside of the building and
you can have a panoramic view. Just wonderful.
OBS: The lines are huge. Avoid going there during the
weekend if its possible, or try to go very early in the morning.
-
John Hancock Center Observatory / Signature Room
Restaurant – The Hancock Observatory is very similar to Willis Tower (but
without the skydeck). My suggestion is to go just in the Signature Room
Restaurant that is located in the 95’ floor! Try to stay in the bar and order something
to drink while you enjoy the amazing view of the city.
OBS1: Try to go there a little bit before the sunset, thus you can see
the city during the day, enjoy a beautiful sunset and also have a gimplse of
the city during the night!
OBS2: This restaurant is a little bit more expensive
than the average ($$-$$$), so I recommend to look the menu on the website
before going there.
-
The Magnificent Mile – Who doesn’t like shopping?
Hehehehe I know…. The famous Magnificent Mile, AKA Michigan Ave, is an
excellent option for shopping; Forever 21, MAC, Sephora, Macys, Anthropologie,
, Nordstrom, GAP, Abercrombie, Victoria’s Secret, Aeropostale, Hollister,
Pandora, etc, etc, etc...
Another excellent option for shopping is the State St,
there you’ll find some pharmacys, Target (supermarket) and ULTA (a store that
sell just beauty products). There are also sport/tennis stores and also other
options to find clothes like the wonderful Urban Outfitters.
-
Boat / Bus Ride (Chicago Architecture Tours & River and Lakefront Tours) - Enjoy the beautiful Chicago inside a boot or a bus.
There are a lot of options for these tours! Choose one that is the best for you
and be delighted by the amazing architecture of the city.
-
Navy Pier – The perfect place for fun, food and
cinema. A place that I highly recommend for the whole family. There are some
restaurants, one of the best cinemas of the city and also the Pier Park that
has the ferris wheel, carousel, and other. Who is planning to go there with
children, try to go to the Chicago Children’s Museum and have some fun. There
are also a bunch of options of boat ride.
-
Art Institute of Chicago – I’m not the only one
to think that this museum is awesome.
This museum was elected as the number #1 in the USA in the Tripadvisor
Travelers’ Choice® 2013. It gathers a multitude of
types of arts such as: contemporary, modern, American and African history, ancient history,
photography and the architecture of the museum is also beautiful! Take a day off to enjoy
the museum.
-
Lincoln Park / Zoo – Lincoln Park is a wonderful
neighborhood to walk around and feel confused with all the options of good
restaurants!!!! But what I like most in this place are: the Lincoln Park
Conservatory (kind of a green house) and the Zoo. The Conservatory is an
excellent option of program for people who like flowers and plants! A lot of
different and beautiful species to admire and you don’t need to pay anything
for that!! To make the things better, the Zoo is next to the Conservatory and
it is also free!!! So, take one day to enjoy these two places.
-
Beach – And who says that here in Chicago we don’t
have beaches? Ohhh yesss, we have it!!!! One of the biggest is pretty close to
the Lincoln Park and it is called North Ave Beach. Besides being huge, there is
also an amazing view of the city. Another option is the Ohio Beach, which is
very close to the Navy Pier, but it is not so big. If the day is very hot, it
will be very hard to find a place to sit.
-
Tour – For people that are hopeless tourists and like
tours around the city with guides, here goes some options of tours for you to
get more acquainted with the city: Chicago’s
Original Gangster Tour (www.gangstertour.com) and Chicago
Food Planet Food Tours (www.chicagofoodplanet.com).
-
Soldier Field – Here is the perfect place for American
football lovers!!! If you are planning to visit the city during the season of
the games, try to buy tickets and feel this experience. (Sometimes the tickets
are very expensive, but the Americans are used to buy tickets cheaper in this
website: www.stubhub.com - > this web site
resell tickets).
-
CUBS – And what about this lovely baseball time here
in Chicago? Loved by every Chicagoan, but they never won a championship to tell
some story… hehehehe This program is also a fun thing to do and feel a lit bit
more like an American. Go to the stadium, try some of the fat and caloric foods
(which are a delight) during the game and enjoy it.
All those attractions are just some of my favorites
places of the city!! It is still missing a lot of different neighborhoods,
restaurants and stores! Soon more posts with more details from Chicago! =)
And of course, I couldn’t forget to mention about a
very IMPORTANT factor and a super RELEVANT factor about the city: the
WEATHER. For anyone that is planning a
trip, don’t forget to consider and evaluate that the winter here is super rigorous. The windy
of the famous Windy City is cruel for those who don’t like the cold. Not to mention
the fact that the city in the winter is another place. A lot of attractions are
closed during the winter like; boat ride, places to practice sports and
restaurants. To walk in the street during the winter is also a very hard
mission and almost impossible to spend a lot of time outside. So I strongly
recommend people to come here during the spring or summer.
To finish, a little bit of Chicago and a lovely music
for our ears:
XO,
_______
conhecer a famosa #Chitown!
Vista linda diretamente do 103' andar onde é possível ver boa
Simplesmente maravilhoso.
OBS: As filas são enormes para
entrar.
John Hancock Center Observatory / Signature Room
The
Macys, Anthropologie, Nordstrom, GAP, Abercrombie, Victoria’s Secret,
Aeropostale, Hollister, Pandora, etc, etc, etc...
· Art Institute
of Chicago – Eu não sou a única a
Outra opção é a Ohio Beach
Gangsters
- Chicago’s Original Gangster Tour (www.gangstertour.com)
Comida
– Chicago Food Planet Food Tours (www.chicagofoodplanet.com)
Então eu realmente indico vir visitar a
cidade durante a primavera e o verão.
